About the artist: Casey King, 14 and in the 8th grade, lives in Tacoma with his parents and sister. He was initially diagnosed with ADHD in 1st grade, but standard medication didn't really address the problems he had dealing with the world. By 5th grade he had turned into an apathetic, angry young man. When his father randomly picked up the book "The Autism Book" by Robert W Sears, MD, FAAP, he realized that Casey had Asperger's. That began the King family journey to understanding Casey's challenges and finding the best doctors, therapists and teachers to guide Casey into adulthood.
One thing that has been a constant in Casey's life is art. His parents have boxes full of the many interesting, detailed drawings he has done since toddlerhood. In 7th grade, Casey transferred to an alternative middle school better suited to his condition. With the guidance and encouragement of his art, set design, and woodshop teachers, his art began to take off, and he began to fully engage in school and the world around him.
Casey is currently working in oil pastels, charcoal and watercolor.
